TEACHINGS & PRESENTATIONS
Papahana Aloha ʻĀina Hawaiʻi strongly believes in education and sharing information so we all grow. With knowledge, we are able to make positive choices, take positive actions, and create positive change. Here are some of the aloha ʻāina teachings and presentations we contributed to.
Since March 2022, with the support of KS Kaiaulu, Papahana Aloha ʻĀina Hawaiʻi has provided a week-long leadership retreat program during the spring break and summer break.
In September 2022, Papahana Aloha ʻĀina Hawaiʻi traveled to Adelaide, Australia to present at the 2022 World Indigenous Peopleʻs Conference on Education (WIPCE). PAA Hawaiʻiʻs youth presented to a standing-room-only crowd. Their presentation was chosen to be televised. Youth also conducted a poster session on their Ola i ka ʻĀina projects and materials.
Papahana Aloha ʻĀina Hawaiʻi youth presented in March 2023 at the Office of Hawaiian Education (OHE) Summit. In the audience was Hawaiʻi Deputy Superintendant, Heidi Armstrong, and Hawaiʻi Board of Education member, Shanty Asher. The ʻōpio brought the audience to tears as they shared their empowering stories of Hawaiian youth leadership founded in Hawaiian language, Hawaiian culture, kuleana, and ʻohana.
In June 2023, Papahana Aloha ʻĀina Hawaiʻi youth lead and presented at the Inaugural Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement (CNHA) Western Regional Conference in its ʻAha ʻŌpio, youth convention. PAA Hawaiʻi ʻōpio sit on the CNHA papa alakaʻi ʻōpio and presented, Kuleana ʻOhana - explaining the connection of ʻāina, ʻohana, and kuleana as a definition of Aloha ʻĀina. They taught a mele koʻihonua, cosmogonic genealogy chant, screened the award-winning Manō film, and shared their own personal stories as it relates to Kuleana ʻOhana and Aloha ʻĀina.
Miss American Scholar (MAS) is the first and only Hawaiʻi based national pageant system. Partnering with BRAVE Hawaiʻi, MAS promotes women leadership development, community service, and being respectful and valuing everyone. To support Papahana Aloha ʻĀina Hawaiʻiʻs founder and the 2022 & 2023-2024 Miss Jr. Teen American Scholar National Queen, PAA Hawaiʻi youth manned a week-long info booth and provided a cultural workshop promoting Hawaiʻi and Aloha ʻĀina at the July 2023 national pageant in Austin, Texas.
Papahana Aloha ʻĀina Hawaiʻi youth participated in the 54th Annual National Indian Education Association (NIEA) Convention in Albuquerque, New Mexico in October 2023. Focusing on education sovereignty and empowering Natives, PAA Hawaiʻi ʻōpio, youth, presented in the main conference and participated in the NIEA youth day program. While in New Mexico, PAA Hawaiʻi visited, networked and met with other Native and Indigenous youth to inspire them to be proud of their heritage and be leaders for their communities.

Papahana Aloha ʻĀina Hawaiʻi youth participated in the 55th Annual National Indian Education Association (NIEA) Convention in Palm Springs, California in October 2024. Focusing on declaring education sovereignty for indigenous peoples, PAA Hawaiʻi ʻōpio, youth, represented Hawaiʻi at the NIEA Culture Night Reception; conducted two presentations during the NIEA Student Days program - one presentation on Hawaiian culture and technology to students in grades 11 to college and another presentation on being youth leaders in the community to students in grades 6-10; and held a poster presentation on the Declaration of Indigenous Youth during the NIEA Research Symposium.
